The NHL season starts in Los Angeles with a knock-off against Colorado. The Kings won't go out in favor of a team that's always fearsome because of its hard work and intensity. The team maintains a solid, well-balanced core and remains able to impose its pace on almost any opponent. Nathan MacKinnon always leads the charge, surrounded by a dense and creative offensive collective. At the blue line, Cale Makar continues to embody the heart of the game, both through her vision and her influence in key moments. Another addition of choice, without any transaction, the return to the game permanently by iconic captain Gabriel Landeskog, which will have an impact on and outside the rink.

Rather than changing everything, management opted for some targeted adjustments to strengthen depth without touching foundations. Behind it, the Makar–Toews pair remains a sure value, now backed by a reinforcement of experience to consolidate the defensive sector. In goals, MacKenzie Blackwood quickly found his marks and offered valuable stability. The summer preparation was indeed reassuring, with a series of clear wins before the coach decided to spare his executives at the end of the preseason.

Direct confrontations

Since 2024, both teams have faced each other four times and Colorado has had the advantage on three occasions. Each time, the team that received the victory, proof of the importance of the field factor in this opposition. The encounters were often prolific, with only one confrontation with less than five goals scored. By March 2025, the Avalanche had even inflicted a large home victory, 4-0.
